Cover and prices
How much does pet insurance cost in South Africa?
OnePlan's published starting prices are R80 per pet per month for the Accident Plan, and from R160, R190, R280 and R430 a month for its other plans. Your price depends on your pet and the plan you choose.
How many OnePlan plans are there?
Five. They range from accident-only cover to the Super plan, which has an overall annual limit of up to R75,000.
Does the Accident Plan cover illness?
No. The Accident Plan covers accidents only. Illness needs one of the plans that include illness benefits.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Don't assume they are. Cover for existing conditions depends on OnePlan's terms. Ask OnePlan about your pet's history before you sign up.
Is there a discount for more than one pet?
OnePlan offers a 10% multi-pet discount from the second pet on eligible plans.
Waiting periods and claims
Is there a waiting period for accidents?
OnePlan says accident hospital admission cover starts immediately, subject to its terms.
What's the waiting period for illness?
OnePlan's current public materials show a 60-day waiting period for illness hospital cover. Plan for it: an illness in that window won't be covered.
Can I use my own vet?
Yes. OnePlan says you can use vets nationwide in South Africa. Hospital stays need pre-authorisation first.
How do claims work?
For eligible day-to-day claims, OnePlan's Claim Card can pay at the vet. For hospital cases, your vet gets pre-authorisation from OnePlan. Claims are handled by OnePlan, not Cactus.
How Cactus works
Is Cactus an insurer?
No. Cactus is an online referral service operated by Leads Elite (Pty) Ltd. OnePlan provides quotes, underwriting, policies, servicing and claims.
What happens after I take the quiz?
Your answers go to OnePlan, and OnePlan may call you to talk through plans and give you a quote. There's no card required to take the quiz.
Does using Cactus cost me anything?
No. The quiz is free. If you take out a policy, you pay OnePlan's premium.
How do I contact Cactus?
Email support@leadselite.co.za, Monday to Friday during normal business hours. Cactus works online only, with no office or phone line.
